Blogging With Benefits!

Blogs As Current Phenomenon and Benefits To The Community

Blogs are mushrooming everywhere in the world, needless to say that it seems to be a crucial necessity and a trend in everyday life. Most people no longer express themselves through conventional diaries but online webblogs. Reasons of bloggings are to be heard though some prefer 'to keep their diaries online, socialising, chatting, or punditry where goal is to reach to as many people as possible (Sandhill Trek 2004).

Approximately, there are 133 million blog records indexed by Technorati since 2002 - 2008 (Technorati 2008). According to Sifry (2006), the blogosphere is over 60 times bigger than it was 3 years ago. What more when if we were to compare the expansion currently. There are many types of blogs such as the 'text based blogs which consist of personal, collaborative, coporate, topical and spam bloggings. Others are postcasts, videocasts or photologs' (Blogging, the Phenomenon 2006). Blogs that seemed prevalent in Europe, Asia and Malaysia are personal, collaborative and corporate blogs.

The benefits of blogs to the community for example in Malaysia, would be the ability to inform people. We can look at the aspect where many political views are voiced through blogs as dissemination of information in print news are strictly regulated by the government. Propangandas from opposition parties are also spread through blogs. As for socialising, bloggers have followers to constantly keep abreast on whats new and as means of business, some boutiques sell products online through blogs. Blogs are places where companies do their advertising as well. For popular blog like xiaxue.blogspot.com, this Singaporean Celebrity Blogger earns entirely from advertisements. So, as we can see, it is a win-win situation for both blogger and advertisers.
